JAN. 25th 2012

Mark you calendars now! We will get the opportunity to perform at the halftime of a San Antonio Spurs Game once again!! This is an awesome experience for the team and as one of the girls put it "it's the most exhilarating experience ever!" The game will begin @ 7:30pm and the girls will be allowed to leave after halftime.

Update!

1)Our "Junior Silver Spur" clinic will be Friday, January 13th 2012. Starting this Friday (Dec. 9th) I have asked the girls to volunteer to go to a feeder school and participate in their morning video announcements promoting the clinic! 
2)Starting January 2nd we will officially be in "Contest Season"! 
We will also start having WEDNESDAY afternoon pracitces from 5:00-6:30pm in Jan. 
3)I am still waiting to have our Nationals Trip to Fort Worth in March approved. AS SOON as it is I can send out financial information. (last year it was less than $200 a girl, FYI) 
4)*This week: we have angel tree gifts due  & the team party Friday night! 

January Dates

In January we will ADD an after school practice time. This is necessary to have time on the gym floor. Each competition is held in a gymnasium and allows us proper spacing.

Next Chapter

With Football season behind we now look forward to contest season! I am so proud of the Spurs and all of our performances thus far! You guys have worked so hard and so well together! I am truly looking forward to seeing how much more we can shine! Keep up the good work and keep looking out for each other!

I apologize for any confusion but after re-evaluating choreography dates we WILL have practice on Saturday Dec. 3rd 

More than a just a dance team!

At the beginning of the year the girls and I decided we would take on a few more challenges this year by trying to be volunteers and to give back to our community in any way we can. There have been lots of opportunities this year and there will be more to come. These activities are by no means "mandatory" but I strongly encourage the girls to pick one or a few and get involved. Its amazing what you can learn about yourself by doing things out of your comfort zone.
Currently on our plate and coming to a close is the our St. Judes Project. The girls are being asked to collect donations from peers, teachers, friends, family members, etc.  and turn them in next week. the money in turn will be used to buy gift cards to distribute to kids fostered by St. Judes.
Next on our plate is the San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon (no, we are not running it) Last year we participated in the "spirit on the course" aspect of the race and it was awesome! This year a few girls have signed up to continue to the tradition. It is THIS Sunday and more details will be handed out tomorrow. 
Again, these events are not mandatory but I think we all can agree they are very beneficial to EVERYONE involved!

Silver Spurs Needed!

I am taking volunteers to attend ROUND 2 of the Volleyball Playoffs tomorrow night! We will meet at SVHS @ 5:15pm and depart on a bus to Canyon Lake High School
*wear your team sweats and mesh top
THIS IS A HUGE GAME AGAINST LAKE TRAVIS, starts @ 7:00pm if you can't ride the bus come to the game anyways-lets show the girls our support! 

NO TEAM PRACTICE THURSDAY

There will be no team practice Thursday Nov. 3rd. 
Please use this time to go to tutoring, catch up on late work, study, etc. 
Report to the dance gym for attendance at 8:30am, prior to 8:30 please refrain from hanging out in the gym because the officers will be practicing.

There will be no practice on Saturday Dec. 3rd

SWEAT SHIRTS FOR SALE

I am taking orders for Sweat Shirts thru Next Wednesday. They are Navy with a Pink "Spur" on the front (The same Spur from our practice tank)

Homecoming Week

Thursday: Field and Band Practice, after school practice 4:15-5:30, break and get ready for pep rally by 6:30, Rally starts @ 7:30pm in the stadium
attire: White shirt, black under shirt, booty shorts, tights, jazz shoes, crazy hair and make-up
Friday: No morning practice, if you are wearing mums wear your Born to Shine Shirt if not wear you Mesh Top (not your jersey)
We will perform AFTER the game, not during half-time

Ranger Rush & Fashion Show

Great Job Saturday! I have heard lots of positive feedback from both events! Keep up the good work girls!

Parade Day

We will meet @ 8:45am in full Field Uniform with POMS for the Parade. We will ride bus to parade, march and be done about 11:20am. (if you are riding home from the parade with your parent, a note must be turned in ahead of time!)

Meet back @ SV that night @ 5:30pm for the Football Game!

Meet in Bulverde at 10:45 am in full Field Uniform, including makeup (be sure to pack a bag with appropriate jean shorts and either your booster club jersey or burn-out tee).

The plan is to:

*March in Parade

*Change Clothes

*Work the “car bash” booth (or whatever else is asked of us)

*WE WILL MEET ON COUGAR BEND IN DOWNTOWN BULVERDE, IF YOU ARE COMING FROM 281 IT WILL BE ON YOUR RIGHT BEFORE YOU ENTER ‘DOWNTOWN’. IF YOU ARE COMING FROM HWY 46 DRIVE THRU THE MAIN AREA AND IT WILL BE ON YOUR LEFT.

*IF YOU ARE BEING DROPPED OFF JUST STOP AT THE INTERSECTION OF COUGAR BEND AND BULVERDE RD.

*IF YOU ARE PARKING: COMING FROM 281 IT WILL BE THE STREET ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE IMMEDIATELY BEFORE COUGAR BEND-SORRY I DON’T KNOW THE NAME!  COMING FROM HWY46 PASS KRUEGER BEND THEN FIRST STREET ON YOUR LEFT.  PARKING IS IN THE GRASS SO PARK AND IMMEDIATELY TURN OFF YOUR CAR!

*If you have an obligation you may leave at 3:30, if not it would great if you can stick around till 5:00pm…..

September Notes

*Bob & Sue Dance = the spurs do a field performance with either their dad, mom or other adult relative. The dance partner should come to the practices for "bob & sue" to learn the material. If there is a major scheduling conflict it is the Silver Spurs responsibility to make sure "bob or sue" is completely prepared.
*Packet Pick up = that is referring to the Ranger Rush 5k packets for participants, eventually I will ask for volunteers to help out
*Bulverde Jubilee = we will march in the parade, possibly do a performance afterwards and will have a "car bashing" booth, it will be a fundraiser for the Spurs b/c we will accept "donations" to bash the donated car
*Parade on the 23rd = That is the Comal County Fair Parade. We will meet @ SV early Friday morning, ride a bus to the parade, march in it, come back to SV, do your own thing all day, then return @ 5:30pm for the football game
* Hope this helps clarify some questions. It's hard to squeeze a lot of info into those little boxes :)

Champions!!

I wanted to personally say how proud I was of the Spurs this weekend on our retreat! Despite the heat we still had 25 girls stay in the cabins! We experienced some awesome accomplishments on the ropes course. It was so neat to see them not let each other give up! I think a lot of girls tried things they had never done before, I know I did too! I slept in an non-a/c cabin, got blobbed and kayaked! I truly enjoyed spending the weekend with the girls and was so proud of their positivity and encouragement towards one another!

*We will be having Field and Band Practice on Thursday mornings. So attendance on Thursday mornings is SUPER important.

2:00-4:00pm we will have practice. I realize there was a very last minute change. I asked the girls to let me know on Tuesday if they had a prior commitment and would not be present. The practice is an exception to the attendance rule. However, we will be learning the second field dance at this time because I had to cancel Thursdays practice.

Field Uniforms are here! I think they are going to look fresh, clean and sharp on the field!
Please do not attempt to wash any part of them until we have specific directions.

Retreat Schedule will be passed out next week, but be prepared for a talent show!

Updates for August

Team pictures: Friday August 19th @ 8:00am in Gruene
New uniforms are here! But now that means another payment for the top and briefs $48 to SVHS. The items will stay the same for the next few years.
Bar-B-Q: Saturday Aug. 13th volunteers to represent the Spurs from 9:00-11:00. We will discuss what to wear, either "born to shine" or booster club shirts, if they are here :)
Make-up details: will be discussed in practice, your make-up will be able to be purchased at HEB/Target/Walmart, etc... Yeah!

The team continues to impress me with their focus and dedication during each practice!

Showoffs will begin an hour earlier on Wednesday! So arrive about 1:45pm instead of the original time of 2:45pm

Thursday Location

Hey SPURS! We will practicing in the rotunda area tomorrow-so just meet there in the morning (its by the cafeteria and basically the opposite side of the school from the dance gym) 
I got lots of checks turned in today which is a good thing, but I also need the order forms from the blog so I  know who is ordering what. 
I also will be returning the $90 checks I received today for the "retreat". That money is not due until August, is only $75 and checks should be written to SSBC not SVHS. 
For those of you that will be ordering sweats in August I can keep the $90 check and put it towards that, just please let me know what you prefer. 
And Lastly-I am very proud of the team today! We had a great first practice!

Last minute reminders!!

 Spurs!!! I am so excited to finally start our year together!! Please remember these last few tidbits:
1) all black attire tomorrow- you can bring shorts or a change of clothes for after lunch or after or jog
2) please bring a bag of candy for the socials
3) lunch break is an hour
4) downtown dancewear check due
5) svhs check due
6) time to boogie, time to get moving, this is it..practice has started and so has our year!
